Our Mission

The B. Robert Williamson, Jr. Foundation was established in 2012 in memory of Robert Williamson – “RW” – to honor his vitality, insatiable curiosity, and passion for life. In tribute to Robert’s eternal optimism, the Foundation provides financial support to non-profit organizations that support education and youth empowerment.We primarily work with organizations in New York City. As we grow, the foundation looks to also provide grants in North Carolina and elsewhere.

Trustees

Our trustees are directly involved in the grantmaking process. They commit their time, financial resources, passion, and brainpower to help successful non-profits improve their outcomes, strengthen their organization, and increase the number of young people that achieve their dreams.

Caroline Williamson is the President, Treasurer and a Director of the B. Robert Williamson, Jr. Foundation (the “Foundation”).  Mrs. Williamson is a graduate of The University of North Carolina and is the Former Chair and Lifetime Member of The Institute for the Arts and Humanities Advisory Board and a current member of the Board of Visitors at the University.  Mrs. Williamson also serves as a Trustee of the Rockaway Hunting Club, Trustee Emeritus at Inwood House, now Children’s Village, and Warden Emeritus at the Church of the Heavenly Rest.  Mrs. Williamson contributes time to the New York Junior League, where she was named an Outstanding Sustainer in 2012, Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, and the New York Botanical Garden. She is the widow of B. Robert Williamson, lives in New York City, and has three children.

Richard L. Chilton, Jr. serves as a Director and Senior Vice President of the Foundation.  Mr. Chilton is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Chilton Investment Company and Chilton Trust Company. Prior to founding Chilton Investment Company, Mr. Chilton worked at Allen & Company.  Prior to that, Mr. Chilton worked at Alliance Capital and Merrill Lynch.  Mr. Chilton received a bachelor of science degree in Finance and Economics from Alfred University.  Mr. Chilton is Trustee Emeritus of The Robin Hood Foundation and of Greenwich Academy.  He currently serves as the Chairman of the Chilton Foundation and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Mr. Chilton lives in Connecticut with his wife, Maureen, and their four children.

Ann Colley serves as a Director of the Foundation.  Ms. Colley is Director of Public Relations and Charitable Giving at Moore Capital Management, LP and Executive Director and Vice President of The Moore Charitable Foundation (MCF) and its affiliate foundations.  As the principal adviser to Moore Charitable founder and chairman Louis Bacon, Ann has spent more than two decades guiding the foundation’s grant making and partnerships with many of the nation’s foremost conservation organizations. She also represents Moore Charitable in collaboration with local community organizations. A native of North Carolina, Ann joined MCF in 1994 as its first executive director, after working in presidential, gubernatorial and congressional campaigns. She serves on the Board of Trustees of Waterkeeper Alliance, which MCF was instrumental in founding, and is on the board of the University of North Carolina’s Institute for the Environment. She is a member of Oceana’s Ocean Council and on the Advisory Board for Ocean 5, Shark Conservation Fund and Smithsonian Tropical Institute. Ms. Colley attended Hollins University and graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She  lives in New York City and has two sons.

James Chapelle Hill III serves as a Director of the Foundation.  Mr. Hill received a B.A. in Industrial Relations from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and attended Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Virginia.  Mr. Hill worked at Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette (“DLJ”) with B. Robert Williamson, Jr.  When DLJ was acquired by CS First Boston, Mr. Hill continued to work with the company until 2004, at which point Mr. Hill moved with his family to Richmond, Virginia.  Mr. Hill has served on the Board of Directors of, among other organizations, the NC Society of New York, New Life of New York City,  and the Bond Club of New York (where he also served as President) and the board of Capital Trees in Richmond.  Mr. Hill currently serves as a Vice President in Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in New York City.  Mr. Hill is married to Katherine Holt Hill and has three children.

Charles McLendon serves as a Director of the Foundation.  Mr. McLendon received a B.A. in Political Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981 and an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia in 1985.  Currently, Mr. McLendon manages an independent financial consulting practice, which he founded in 2011.  He has over 25 years of experience in the fixed income capital markets and has served in management positions at several large banks.  Mr. McLendon was a close friend of B. Robert Williamson, Jr. and is honored to continue his legacy through supporting the establishment and ongoing success of the Foundation.

Alex Robertson serves a Director of the Foundation.  Mr. Robertson is President and Chief Operating Officer of Tiger Management and a Member of the Investment Committee.  Mr. Robertson graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.  Before joining Tiger in 2008, Mr. Robertson served as a Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole and also as a member of Senator Dole’s campaign staff in 2002.  Mr. Robertson worked for President Bush’s re-election campaign in 2004 in North Carolina and Colorado.  Mr. Robertson serves as a trustee of The Robertson Foundation, Tiger Foundation, East Lake Foundation, Purpose Built Communities, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and The Boys Club of New York. Alex lives in New York City with his wife, Alexandra Leonard Robertson and their three children.

Jonathan M. Wainwright serves as Secretary of the Foundation.  Mr. Wainwright is a Senior Counsel at the law firm Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, where he served as a Partner for more than 32 years.  During his tenure as a Partner, Mr. Wainwright served as the Co Chair of the firm’s Corporate Group.  Mr. Wainwright earned a bachelor’s degree with honors from Yale College and his J.D. from New York University School of Law.  In his law practice, Mr. Wainwright has represented many not-for-profit organizations and he served as the Deputy Chairman of Lighthouse Guild, which is dedicated to helping people who have lost their sight or suffer from low vision.  Mr. Wainwright also served as a Trustee of The Nature Conservancy, Long Island Chapter and is currently the Director and the President of The Friends of Georgica Pond Foundation. He lives in New York City with his wife, Candace.

Caroline Williamson serves as a Director of the Foundation. Ms. Williamson graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Journalism in 2013 and Columbia Business School in 2020. Currently, Ms. Williamson is a Senior Product Manager on the Beauty Technology Innovation team at Amazon. Before business school, Ms. Williamson was with Morgan Stanley in their Private Wealth Management Group in San Francisco. Ms. Williamson is the daughter of Robert Williamson and is active with the Junior Committee of the Foundation.

Rob Williamson serves as a Director of the Foundation. Mr. Williamson graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Management and Society in 2018. Currently, Mr. Williamson is a Partner at Bartons Family Capital, a Private Equity firm based in London. Prior to Bartons, he was a VP at USI Insurance Services working with Private Equity family offices and hedge funds. Mr. Williamson is the son of Robert Williamson and is active with the Junior Committee of the Foundation.
